Six Italian Restaurants in GD Awarded Ospitalita' Italiana

An Italian food award ceremony was held this April at the Italian Consulate in Guangzhou. Six Italian restaurants in Guangdong, eight in Shanghai, and two in Beijing were awarded the Ospitalita' Italiana.

Ospitalita' Italiana is a worldwide certification promoted by the Italian Chamber of Commerce, together with IS.NA.RT., the Italian Institute for Touristic Research, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, the Italian Ministry of Tourism, the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Food.

Paolo Miraglia del Giudice, the Consul General of Italy in Guangzhou explained, "This year we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. Though our country's history is not long, the food and wine of Italian cuisine has a long history and influence."

Ospitalita' Italiana is a "quality certification" to certify that the awarded Italian restaurants meet the high quality standards required to make authentic Italian cuisine, as they use original imported Italian products (olive oil, parmigiano, D.o.C. wines etc) and have an experienced Italian chefs.

The project Ospitalita' Italiana is an occasion to promote one of the most refined creations of Italy, Italian Cuisine, and has as a goal to make Italian food ingredients more recognizable by consumers outside of Italy.

Marco Bettin, the Vice Chairman of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Guangdong told lifeofguangzhou.com, "Ospitalita' Italiana was established in Italy in 1997 and has certified more than 5,400 hotels and restaurants throughout Italy. Since last year Ospitalita' Italiana has started cooperating with Italian Chambers of Commerce in 65 Countries around the world, to certify authentic Italian Restaurants abroad."

One thousand of the finest Italian restaurants around the world have been selected for the certification, which first started at the end of 2009. Italian Chambers in foreign countries have had a pivotal role in managing the selection process, making on site surveys and helping the appointed Evaluating Committee based in Rome make the screening and analysis of all the collected nominations.

So far 231 venues have been approved, out of which 16 are Italian restaurants located in China, in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
